What we check before calculation data is used
A published number is not enough on its own. Its source, units, material scope, product form, and practical limits must all match the calculation where it appears.
Prefer sources closest to the original technical authority
Standards bodies, recognized technical publications, and first-party manufacturer data are preferred. Secondary summaries may help locate a reference, but they should not replace the original publication when the decision depends on exact wording or scope.
Check scope, units, and conversion method
A density value is checked against its alloy or grade, product form, stated condition, temperature when available, published units, and rounding. Formula references are checked against the geometry the calculator actually asks you to enter.
Keep theoretical, measured, approved, and commercial values separate
A theoretical result estimates nominal metal mass. It is not automatically an actual scale weight, a certified material value, an engineering approval, or the weight basis used on an invoice.
What you should still confirm
- The selected material and density match the ordered grade or alloy.
- The dimensions match the stock form and are entered in the correct unit system.
- Allowances for tolerance, coating, fabrication, packaging, and transport are handled separately.
- The supplier, project, or legal measurement method controls where required.
