Pipe Weight Calculator
Enter actual outside diameter, wall thickness, cut length, quantity, and material to calculate theoretical weight for round pipe. For NPS or DN orders, look up the corresponding OD and wall thickness first.

Use this checklist when asking a supplier for a quote. Mark anything you are unsure about for confirmation.
- Material
- Grade and any specified material standard.
- Dimensions
- Plate, pipe or bar; dimensions and units.
- Quantity
- Number of pieces, length per piece or required weight.
- Tolerances
- Permitted dimensional variation, if specified.
- Finish and processing
- Surface finish, delivery condition and cutting requirements.
- Delivery
- Destination and preferred arrival date.
Add any inspection-document or packaging requirements. Theoretical weight is for planning; confirm the billing basis with the supplier.
Formula
Inside diameter = actual outside diameter − 2 × wall thickness.
Metal area = π × (outside diameter² − inside diameter²) / 4.
Theoretical mass = metal area × length × nominal density × quantity.
A valid round pipe input requires wall thickness to be less than half the outside diameter.

Frequently asked questions
Is nominal pipe size the outside diameter?
Usually not. NPS is a designation. Use the actual outside diameter associated with the selected nominal size and product standard.
Can I enter pipe schedule instead of wall thickness?
The calculation needs a numeric wall thickness. Resolve the schedule and nominal size through a current, applicable standard or manufacturer table first.
Why does a catalog pipe weight differ from the calculation?
Catalog values may use standard nominal dimensions, rounding, manufacturing conventions, or included end configurations. Compare like-for-like inputs and keep the catalog nominal value distinct.
Does pipe weight include water or insulation?
No. The result covers the modeled pipe wall only. Contents, lining, insulation, cladding, fittings, and supports require separate calculations.
